MEDUSA

Medusa is a unique shawl design, incorporating macramé cord directly into the crochet rows, creating a bold texture. Finished with long, flowing tassels, it has a sense of movement that feels both grounded and a little untamed.

Medusa is a large triangular shawl, worked from the apex to wide end.

A unique shawl construction with the incorporation of macrame cord, crocheted directly into rows.

The shawl is constructed using a combination of cross stitches and a long wave stitch patterns.

Along with Macrame cord crocheted within rows, these elements create texture and movement throughout the shawl.

The cord is fine enough to create softness and drape, while maintaining structure and texture within the shawl.

The cord ends are evenly spaced along the breath of the shawl, to be finished off as a knotted lattice fringe.

Inspired by Medusa by Jessie Burton, this shawl draws from a softer retelling of the myth, centred on self-acceptance, isolation, and reclaiming identity. Flowing cords echo both serpents and sea currents, while crossed stitches suggest guarded strength and quiet rage. In contrast, soft fringes reflect the memory of her once long, flowing hair—tenderness woven through resilience.
